Building History

Built in 1913, this building was first known as the Citrus Inn. Over the years, the Citrus Inn became many different businesses, including a brothel, Edward’s hotel and ICO Club. It was a place for laughter, good meals, drinking and dancing.

In the 1970’s, the Holt Family opened Sheepherder ‘s Inn known for family style Basque dining. It quickly became a destination point for special events, such as Thanksgiving and Mother’s Day and the place to go on your way from the bay area to Tahoe. The Holt family had much success for almost 30 years with their great prime rib dinners, big pieces of pie and lively atmosphere.

The building then became almost 90 years old and needed many renovations. It sat empty for almost two years when D&S Development bought the property and renovated the building. The stone fireplaces and columns, wood rafters and beams are original.

It then became known as Sheepherder Bar and Grill. For almost 5 years it was a place for a great Happy Hour, French Dip and Prime Rib dinners.

After completing minor remodeling to freshen up the restaurant and expand the lounge seating area, we are captivating the local business and residential communities. Fire Rock Grill features a New American menu that includes tastes from Latin America, the Mediterranean and Italy.
